“It was a long hot weekend, but it was so much fun,” said Juliana Owens, a skater for the Methow Valley Roller Girls, after the 3 day Bombercon roller derby clinic at the Okanogan County Fairground’s Agri-Plex.

Skaters from four different roller derby teams from around Washington met at the Agri-Plex Friday, July 6th for a weekend of roller derby practice with a bout Saturday. “Girls from a team in Everett |Jet City Roller Girls| were teaching everyone else, so we divided into two teams,” said Owens. The Methow Madams won the bout in front of a large crowd from the Methow Valley and Okanogan areas.

Owens said that there were some good takedowns, but no serious injuries. Saturday’s bout was followed up with an after party that night and more skating Sunday.

The Methow Valley Roller Girls practice three nights a week with fresh meat practice on Sunday, meaning, “Anyone interested in skating can come,” said Owens. They have skates to borrow.

The Roller Girls first bout as a team will be August 4th in Wenatchee at the Wenatchee Town Toyota Center where six teams will meet for three matches starting at 1p.m. to 10p.m. in the Apple Town Skate Down.
