The Season Begins

Owen, left, and Sydney Huffaker from Anacortes were the first eastbound North Cascades Highway travelers of 2012 to buy ice cream cones at Sheri's Sweet Shoppe in downtown Winthrop. His double chocolate almond and her coconut almond fudge cones were purchased at 1:38 p.m. on Thursday. The Huffakers were on a day trip - out for a drive in the gorgeous, sunny weather. "There's not nearly as much snow as last year," she said of the trip up and over.
