A crew from Mitchell Trucking & Paving of East Wenatchee lays asphalt on the new pedestrian trail across from Little Star Montessori School in Winthrop.

Ready to Roll
And stroll

The contractor said his piece of Winthrop’s new Susie Stephens Trail project would be finished by the end of July and indeed it was. As of July 31 pedestrians and bicyclists are welcome to use the newly paved trail, which extends from the Methow Conservancy across the Spring Creek pedestrian bridge, past the Winthrop Ice Rink, up the hill to the town ski trail head and across White Avenue to the Little Star Montessori School.

“It’s super exciting,” Rocklynn Culp, Winthrop town planner, said Monday as she watched the paving crew. It was her second trip of the day from her office to the job site. “It’s so gratifying to see it here.”

Mitchell Trucking and Paving from East Wenatchee started work at 7:30 a.m. Monday and as of late afternoon had only a small stretch at the downtown end of the bridge left to complete.

Bob Lloyd of Lloyd Logging in Twisp was the general contractor. The plan is to someday extend the trail as far as the Winthrop Post Office.
