Christine
L. Cherrington, 10/03/1952 to 12/01/1991, was born in
Turin, Italy, to Ronald and Tillin Dempster. Chris
was raised in Oakland, CA, and moved to the Methow Valley
in 1977. In 1986, she was one of the founders of Cascadia.
Chris
had a strong commitment to anti-nuclear and peace work.
She was a Thesbian, a talented chef, and a dynamic organizer.
She
taught at the Little Star Montessori School, and worked
as volunteer coordinator for the “Methow Valley as a Classroom” program
at Liberty Bell High School. She was a member of St. Genevieve’s
Catholic Church. One of her legacies is the Christine Cherrington Memorial
Scholarship Endowment Fund. Every year, a Liberty Bell High
School student is afforded the opportunity to pursue higher
education in music-related fields thanks to this initiative.
To apply for a scholarship:
Each
year, the Christine Cherrington Memorial Scholarship
Fund gives a $1000 award to Liberty Bell High School graduates
who are interested in furthering their music education
after high school. Applications for this award may
be obtained through the counselor’s office at Liberty
Bell High School or by sending a request to Cascadia.
Applications
are processed by the end of April and require an interview.
